Sterbebild are also known as Funeral Cards or Death Notices.
The vast majority of Germans in World War II were Catholics.
Like many funeral services today, a small card (usually baseball card size) were printed with a photo and brief history of the deceased.
This custom has existed for several centuries and was very prevalent during the Second World War.
This particular card was printed in remembrance of:
Georg Hiebl
Georg was a Sergeant in the Motorized Infantry and was awarded two decorations and the marksmanship lanyard as visible in his studio portrait.
He fell in Russia on February 6, 1944 after 6.5 years of service at the age of 29.
