This listings is for a genuine and original WWII German Army Sterbebild.
Sterbebild are also known as Funeral Cards or Death Notices.
The vast majority of Germans in World War II were Catholics.
Like many funeral services today, a small card (usually baseball card size) were printed with a photo and brief history of the deceased.
This custom has existed for several centuries and was very prevalent during the Second World War.
These particular card was printed in remembrance of:
Alfred Ecklmayr
Alfred was a Pilot and served in the pre-war NSFK and held the rank of Obertruppführer.
During his service he was awarded a Bronze Clasp but it is not shown which version (Fighter, Bomber etc).
He fell while fighting in Italy in February 1943 at the age of 24.
This card would be a great addition to a collection.
