This listings is for a genuine and original WWII German Army Sterbebild.
Sterbebild are also known as Funeral Cards or Death Notices.
The vast majority of Germans in World War II were Catholics.
Like many funeral services today, a small card (usually baseball card size) were printed with a photo and brief history of the deceased.
This custom has existed for several centuries and was very prevalent during the Second World War.
This particular card was for:
Karl Schmidt
Karl was a Corporal in the Mountain Troops and was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class and Infantry Assault Badge.
He fell near Lake Ladoga on January 18, 1943 at the age of 21.
