Sterbebild are also known as Funeral Cards or Death Notices.
The vast majority of Germans in World War II were Catholics.
Like many funeral services today, a small card (usually baseball card size) were printed with a photo and brief history of the deceased.
This custom has existed for several centuries and was very prevalent during the Second World War.
This particular card was printed in remembrance of:
Michael Dirmeyer
Michael was a Sergeant and Platoon Commander in the Infantry and was awarded the Military Service Cross with Swords and the the Infantry Assault Badge as well as an Army Long Service medal that is shown in wear.
He fell on August 24, 1942 at the age of 28.
