VINTAGE 1940-1960'S CHOW CHOW DOG "NIMPO" PORCELAIN/CERAMIC FIRGURE - R. SIMMONS

For sale is an adorable vintage porcelain Chow Chow, Dog named 'NIMPO' #20168 was made by the Robert Simmons Ceramics studio in Los Angeles, California.  The Simmons studio produced primarily animal figurines between 1940 and the early 1960's and most of those were copied from designs of Royal Doulton, Beswick (England), and Hertwig (Germany)  This particular figurine is a copy of a Chow dog made by Hertwig.  It would be difficult to tell them apart if one was not aware.  The Simmons figures generally have a small silver sticker with the item name and number; a gold foil bottom sticker and a spot of paint on the bottom of a foot or paw.  This hand painted Chow Dog has all three markers.  NIMPO is approximately 5 1/2" T x 8" L and is in excellent condition, displays nicely and is a highly collectible piece of vintage pottery.
