    Description

1880's Anthony Wooden SCHMID DETECTIVE Camera with brass folding handle.  To focus, the brass screw on the side could be loosened and as the arc is lowered, the box-in-box design comes out.  The shutter release is the round brass button on the bottom.  The back piece of wood is missing from the camera ~ I guess the glue dried up over the last 135 years.  This took 4 x 5 plates.  The camera measures 8-1/2" x 5" x 7".   The Schmid was "the world's first 'commercially produced' hand-held camera."  This is an  historically important name to include in your camera / photographic collection.
This camera has been part of my late husband's (Alan B. Cotter) 50+ year photographic collection.  He was the one to understand the workings, as well as condition of it.  I could appreciate the appearance / aesthetics only; therefore, you are buying this "as-is."  Please ask all questions before bidding, because I do not accept returns.
